Sysadmin Doing Software Development Blues

1) Bugs written by clueless people drive me nuts. I will gladly fix a real bug, but first I need a coherent explanation of what's happening when you do what. Don't claim X isn't working when you really tried to do Y.

2) When you file a bug, don't tell me exactly how to fix it. Really. Unless you have been looking at the code, you will probably be off in left field, and piss me off besides.

3) Do not file a bug for a feature request as though it was a problem. It's not, it's a feature request. I will be glad to add really useful and/or essential features as time permits, but I have to fix the real bugs first.

4) When I'm working on a web application, do not ask me, or try to "tell" me, to put in a "pop-up". They are evil, and do not enhance the useability of anything but your mouse to click the little "X" to close the f***ing thing.

5) Since the product runs partly on Linux, I assume that people will want to use Linux based browsers to operate the backend stuff. Don't ask for IE only crap in my app. I'll snarl.

6) You know that a$$hole contractor that was so great? He never checked his source into cvs. All we have is dodgy rpms. So much for updates... Now I've got to reverse engineer things. Since I'm contract too, I'll be professional and try to document where things are.

Thank the gods and little fishies that I'm still paid by the hour.

Clueful people don't write bugs. :)

As I clicked on the Rant & Rave link to applaud your points, I couldn't help but notice the irony that I got a pop-up window. :)

I know. I didn't write this software, and I haven't had the time to find and fix the stupid pop-up for comments!

The comments link *should* go to a seperate page with the main article and the comments beneath it in threaded order.

But Moveable Type likes f***ing pop-ups.

Ah HA!! Finally found where that pop-up crap was living in the template and *ERADICATED* it!

Thanks for the inspiration to do something about it!
