F**ked over another one

The Build-Release guy, JC, at $Job got "laid off" today. Nevermind that they just hired a build-release contractor, plus a dipshit clearcase guy who is more of a bureaucrat than a working engineer. They sacked one of the guys who knows the system best, and can troubleshoot it. Why? Because he doesn't pull all-nighters, I guess.

You see, there have been problems with the build. Instead of blaming either the development guys who screw it up, or the dweeb that "cooks" the installer, they are shooting the guy who runs the install and finds the problems. If they think that a personnel change will "fix" their software, they are on drugs. They've been shafting him for the last six months or so, but the market wasn't good enough that he could just walk.

I really don't expect to be here past August. That's when my 6 month contract is up, and I'm not sure I want to go regular in an environment like this.

Aw, damn. Sorry to hear about it. Things do seem to be picking up, however. I have a hot prospect at IBM Professional Services, for example. I hope J.C. finds something soon.

If you have his home email, could you send it to me, L?

Thanks.

It sucks for JC and it sucks for the new hire too. Imagine walking over to chat with that friendly coworker you met yesterday, only to find he's packing his stuff up. No wonder they were so pushy about the start date.

ugh.
